We would sit as vegetables or void shells alone in some dull room since we would not realize that there was whatever else. We would essentially sit in light of the fact that there was nothing to give us that there was more to life than what we were doing around then. In spite of the fact that he later made his four phases of advancement his genuine intrigue was in epistemology. The hypothesis of information was fascinating to him so he concentrated widely it from a logical point of view (Papert, p. 3). What Are the Intended Effects of the Opening of Ridley Scottââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËGladiatorââ¬â¢ and How Effective Are They Free Essays
Ridley Scottââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËGladiatorââ¬â¢ was discharged in 2000 and won five Oscars (Academy Awards); including ââ¬Å"Best Film,â⬠ââ¬Å"Best Visual Effectsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Best Director.â⬠Scott cast some notable on-screen characters, for example, Russel Crowe and Richard Harris. A few reports recommend it cost a stunning à ¯Ã¢ ¿Ã¢ ½145 million. We will compose a custom exposition test on What Are the Intended Effects of the Opening of Ridley Scottââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËGladiatorââ¬â¢ and How Effective Are They? or on the other hand any comparative theme just for you Request Now The giving of Crowe a role as Maximus was huge in light of the fact that he can depict an all around manufactured, truly solid, fight solidified pioneer. The character of Maximus appears differently in relation to the giving of Harris a role as the maturing Emperor with his emaciated and tired looking highlights. From the very beginning of the movie, the chief utilizes a sepia impact combined with a dull, cloudy practically monochrome impact. These consolidate to give the impression of inevitable catastrophe just as passing on that the occasions are set in the far off past. The chief has even asked the creation organizations ââ¬ËUniversalââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËDreamWorksââ¬â¢ to make their logosââ¬â¢ sepia to show coherence. The authentic data gave causes the crowd to put the film in a verifiable setting. The utilization of old Roman textual style for the content further fortifies the unique circumstance and classification. The data is real, gives names and data of genuine individuals. Plainly this is going a chronicled, activity film however with a focal topic about force, control and one manââ¬â¢s battle for his opportunity from the murdering and butcher. The primary shot is an extraordinary close up, when you would ordinarily anticipate that an outrageous since quite a while ago shot should see the scene. The extraordinary close up is concentrating on the actorââ¬â¢s hand drifting through the grass. The moderate calm music assists with making the shot fanciful. The primary character appears to be quiet since he is stroking the grass and he is wearing a wedding band to show he is a family man. After the moderate close up shot the chief shows the character alone on the combat zone which makes the past scene an unequivocal dream. To set up that it was a fantasy the chief bounces from a moderate quiet shot to a medium close up on the character in an increasingly dull and desolate shot. The characterââ¬â¢s defensive layer and wolf-skin shows that he is a significant man. The slice to a robin (a fowl generally found in winter) with a dull foundation tells the crowd that it is winter. In the wake of seeing the robin a little grin battles its way on to his face, which shows he isn't only a shocking, heartless warrior and that he has a delicate side. The extraordinary since quite a while ago shot is acceptable to lay everything out of the front line, which is a dim and bleak woods. The name of the area ââ¬ËGermaniaââ¬â¢ is Roman for Germany, by utilizing the Roman language it assists with building up the way that it is an old, Roman film. This shot is increasingly sensational on the grounds that it stands out intensely from the past fanciful shot of the hand coasting through a quiet cornfield. The moderate music (adagio) begins the extraordinary since quite a while ago shot creation the air quiet and delicate, it likewise makes it unpropitious in light of the fact that the adagio music is playing in the war zone shot. At the point when the shot starts to zoom in the music turns out to be all the more enthusiastic and activity pressed similarly as the military beginnings coming into see so you realize that they are doing battle. The music incorporates trumpets and a couple of drums which makes the shot progressively military. The abrupt change in air and music begins to develop the pressure and desire that a lot of activity is unavoidable. As the shot moves to Marcus Aurelius, the crowd can see that he is a significant character. He is donning gold alongside a purple cape. The purple cape shows he is eminence on the grounds that to make the shading purple a little ocean animal called a Murex Mollusc was required. This animal was exceptionally uncommon and huge amounts were required to make a modest quantity of color. In this manner, purple articles of clothing were exceptionally prized superficial points of interest. While zooming internal the camera shot utilized is a low edge which makes Marcus Aurelius appear to be high on his pony. He is likewise simply watching the war not busy and he has a harsh looking guardian. The chief stresses General Maximusââ¬â¢ authority by utilizing a medium close up as he strolls along the entirety of his soldiers. Everybody is centered around him; they move off the beaten path, bow down and are continually calling him sir to show total regard. The ensemble he wears characterizes his position, he wears more protective layer than the remainder of his military and he is additionally wearing wolf-skin. The chief anxieties Maximusââ¬â¢ authority and regard by making his assertion last, the executive shows this in the accompanying statement, ââ¬Å"The extend is goodâ⬠this is where Maximus removes the other fighter, likewise ââ¬Å"â⬠¦is acceptableâ⬠, at that point, ââ¬Å"agreedâ⬠, Maximus talks in a low, tranquil, considered manner of speaking yet the officers despite everything tune in with no inquiry which shows their regard for him. In the pre-fight persuasive discourse to his men, Maximus utilizes the sort of language that his men can comprehend to energize and rouse them. ââ¬Å"Three weeks from now I will reap my yields. Believe were you need to be and it will be so.â⬠Here he is making them ponder the future and set an objective for themselves. He at that point jokes that on the off chance that they get themselves isolated they are now in Elysium (Roman the hereafter). Be that as it may, at that point he utilizes an expression that appears to be very unusual for an extreme, severe general of a forceful, majestic Roman armed force, ââ¬Å"What we do in life echoes in eternity.â⬠This line right away stamps out Maximus as having an otherworldly and nostalgic viewpoint to his character. There are numerous contrasts between the Romans and the German Tribesmen, for example when Maximus is giving his discourse the entirety of his soldiers are in development discreetly tuning in and completely thinking, by differentiate the German Tribesmen are yelling and not giving any consideration. The battling style of the Romans is methodical, synchronized and they are in an ideal fight development, the Tribesmen are in muddled going around like a riffraff. The Romans are furnished with coordinating defensive layer and comparable weapons while the Tribesmen have creature skins and unpleasant individual weapons. The Romans seem to have a total procedure and are restrained, the Tribesmen simply depend on their beast quality, and even their appearance is boorish. The executive assists with setting up the contrast between the different sides by making the efforts of each side in a steady progression. At the finish of the fight the chief utilizes a strategy that appears to be totally sudden. As the fight is seething, there is uproarious military music with loads of trumpets, drums and rallying calls. Anyway as the fight is reaching a resolution and the Roman armed force is very nearly triumph, the executive changes to slow movement shots and an adagio score. Rather than seeing triumphant Romans commending their triumph and tuning in to triumphant music, the crowd is left in a marginally befuddled state. It is as though the chief is attempting to convey the pointlessness of the demise and demolition. As the remainder of the Germans are being butchered and fires are seething out of sight the main human sound is the sound of substantial tired exhalation of breath, Even blood splattered, depleted Maximusââ¬â¢ triumphant cry, ââ¬Å"Roma Victor!â⬠and his soldiersââ¬â¢ cheers are nearly lost in the adagio. At that point in a scene that seals the pointlessness of war, the camera centers a worn out, old, fatigued Emperor as he takes a full breath and shuts his eyes in an articulation that uncovers his pitiful renunciation that another fight has been won. From the outset, I just idea ââ¬Å"Gladiatorâ⬠was basically going to be a ââ¬Å"blood and guts film,â⬠But having watched it with more prominent consideration, I trust it is a genuinely incredible film. Ridley Scott has painstakingly built an initial scene that draws out the worthlessness of war and one keeps an eye on battle to be free. Scott had utilized various impacts, for example, slow movement photography, fast change in climate and a practically monochrome set with the orange of consuming flames and sepia tones. The melodic score has exchanged between triumphant military music and a moderate adagio indicating of unavoidable disaster and bitterness. Indeed, even the insignificant exchange between the characters supplements the directorââ¬â¢s expected impact. By and large this is a sublime opening scene. Gravity Rides Everything
Gravity Rides Everything I did many things this weekend during CPW: -met you. As I said at the Meet the Bloggers party, we write stuff, put it on the Internet, and you guys actually read it. Whats up with that?! -fed you. Even in the rain. Gotta love a barbecue. Mmmm, polish sausage and Star Markets entire stock of organic portobello mushrooms. Think of the vegetarians, people! -dumped (with the aid of other SH residents) six thousand neon plastic balls on you. And you. And you and you and you. Yeah, thats a lot of bouncy balls. (Pictures, anyone? Seeing as I wasnt on the receiving end of the drop, I dont have any myself) Notice sleep is not on this list, as an 8.02 exam, psets for 5.12 and 18.03, and being CPW rush chair for Senior Haus eliminated any chance of getting some of that. $10 says sleep isnt on your list of things you did over CPW either. Am I right? Hmmm? If you didnt meet me, then you probably met my mom, since she spent the weekend being an MIT mommy and telling you prefrosh and your parents what to expect over the next year. (Shes visiting for a week, during which she keeps trying to clean my room. Thanks, Mom. I think.) The things anyone may have said to you about classes and dorms and having a life will apply wherever you go to school next year but youre coming here in August, right? ^_^ But youre probably all CPW-ed out, so thats not what this post is about. This is about something far, far more important: music, and how I listen to far too much of it. what?! Im not all about MIT, and neither are you. There are 35 gigabytes of music on my computer right now (and as a result of this and all five seasons of Daria, I have absolutely no free hard drive space), and the number keeps increasing thanks to WMBRs massive record library. I have absolutely no idea how it happened. Its about time for an external hard drive. Once I find a good new release (or an old album by a band Id never heard of before), my friends dont stop hearing about it for a good two weeks. With that said, go have a listen to Modest Mouses new album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Granted, its not The Moon and Antarctica, but that doesnt mean its not worth your time. Ignore any people you hear whining about how the band has chaaaaaaanged! or sold ouuuuuut! or both, and go form your own opinion instead. How many bands can last in the music industry for over a decade without having altered their sound in any way? Name two. I dare you to. Anyway, this album is my favorite new release as of late, guaranteeing that I will a) give it far too much airplay on Hannas and my show and b) shamelessly promote the thing to all of my friends. (And to the Internet!) Dont you underestimate me I did the same thing two months ago, when Sondre Lerches Phantom Punch came out. All of this is leading up to the tried-and-true open question: what have you been listening to? Any songs or albums that youve had on repeat? Anything that you just plain love? I want to hear about it! Itll give me something to listen to while studying for tomorrows 5.12 exam!

Abrahams Lincoln was raised on Sinking Spring Farm Lincolns father bought the farm for two hundred dollars and he received 300 acres of land, the farm land was known for a great water source and fertile soil. Lincoln had it rough as he was growing up. Yet again title trouble for the land rights drove the father to build a raft and put his whiskey and tools and left for Indiana. There he found his spot and came back for his family to take them down to Indiana and they took off in 1816 so they could have a new start. When they arrived in Indiana it was nearly Winter, and they had to act quickly to not die of the cold. Abraham and his father built a shelter that was half built and half open where a fire was to heat the interior of the shelter. Relatives came to join the Lincolns and they took more than half the half-faced shelter the Lincolns had to move to their other unfinished shelter where they had to live again in hardship through the winter and the cold. Abrahams mother passed away due to sickness that hit the family because of the cold and them not being warm enough and the shelter not helping with heat. Years later when Abraham was older he ran for Congressmen and won even though he was small he made a name for himself an d worked his way up to have a legacy for himself. Nearing the end of Abrahams term at congress he threw all his support in to the Whig party, and he worked to elect Zachary Taylor he travelled throughout Europe looking to do better. Apple Ipod Advertisement Evaluation Free Essays
How many people worldwide love to listen to their own elegant style of music? Well with the new Apple Ipod you have the power to listen to your flavour of tunes that gets your blood flowing or just brings back your fondest memories. Absolutely no one could turn down an opportunity to liven up a bad day with a fantastic song. The Apple Ipod is ââ¬Å"probably the bestâ⬠technology the music industry could grant you. We will write a custom essay sample on Apple Ipod Advertisement Evaluation or any similar topic only for you Order Now One of the best ways to show people how the product will help you is by advertising on the television because it shows people exactly what the product will do for you and how it will make you a better person. As I found the commercial on the Internet I do not know when the commercial was first aired. But as the target audiences is mainly twelve year olds and all those above (12+) this keeps is short, the duration of the advert is thirty seconds with twenty clips. With a slide only being a couple of seconds long there is a large quantity to take in on the visual imagery of this advertisement. Basically the main sequences are Silhouettes dancing along to the song Flathead by Fratellis. Apple has picked the song Flathead because it makes you click your fingers, so it is powerful and makes you attracted to the screen because of the catchy song. The Song plays throughout the whole commercial without any voice-overs. The song produces energy a qualities important to the sequence through their teenaged years. When the commercial starts the image is a pink male Silhouetted body holding an Ipod stood in the centre of the screen; behind him is a blue background with thin pink and green lines passing behind his body, he is shaking his body to the beat of the music and clapping, his Ipod against his waist. You can distinguish the Ipod because it is the only white object on the screen; the bright colours make the audiences automatically drawn to the television screen. It would appeal to both genders because it shows the male is not troubled of any feminine signals he may be receiving by the audience due to the colours; he is obviously comfortable to express his sexuality with the way the colours are expressed. Then for a split second the screen changes to pink and purple with a full body shot of a silhouetted man waving his left arm in the air; again to the beat at the end of the clip a creamer pink lightning bolt strikes across the manââ¬â¢s body, This is powerful because the jolt of lightning gives the viewers a slight flinch, and keeps the attention fixed to the screen. Even though you donââ¬â¢t know what the people look like you would still communicate with people in the advert because the viewer is made to feel like they should the like the silhouette. The fact you donââ¬â¢t know exactly what they look like is powerful because it could indicate that it could be any one, even the customers; the outline of the character is also powerful because it is surreal and not fixed to one human image. The next clip is of a man wearing a trilby style of hat he is a blue and pink background colour, again the Ipod is in his hand whilst he dances. He shows you the Ipod on this angle because he is showing you how thin it is, he is showing the audience this because this will make the product more appealing because the customers do not want to carry a ââ¬Å"brickâ⬠in their pocket all the time and makes the other music player products unpopular. The contrast in colours between the background and the silhouette is also very important because then the audience can easily distinguish between the foreground activity and contrasting background. This is can influential towards the viewers because it makes them what to buy the product due to the fashion that the viewer has seen on the silhouette on the commercial. Another pink silhouette of a man, but the background is blue it still shows the contrast of colour and also shows a mixed personality at the same time. He is kicking his smart and snazzy shoes towards the camera; it makes male viewers feel like they need shoes like the silhouette so the has to go out and get some like the silhouette for the reason that it looks fashionable but at the same time also influences male to also get an Ipod. The next clip is of the first person in the commercial, you can tell since the Silhouette shape and background go back to the same colours as the first clip; so the some of the silhouettes have a individual colour. The way he is jumping in the air waving his arms round like a lunatic suggests that he is have a really good time and he is basically ââ¬Å"freaking outâ⬠, another reason that the viewer should buy it because commercial is sending the message the viewer that the silhouettes are having a good time so why shouldnââ¬â¢t the customers. An orange silhouette woman is in the next set of slides; it is a headshot specifically so that you can only see her earphones; they stand out specifically because it shows how perfectly slot in the silhouetteââ¬â¢s ears even when she is dancing. She has long hair and it waves when she jumps and moves to the sound of the music. The silhouette Dances is like so is non-conformity; so the message is sent to the viewers is that Ipods will set you free from all rules. In the next clip their stands a turquoise woman that shows the Ipod in the front of the shot; it is the main focus on the screen so that the viewers eyes cannot be averted from it, it also shows you the Ipod like this because it shows exactly what the Ipod looks like. Going from person to person suggesting that a lot of people like dancing to this song because it is popular or even any song on an Ipod because it is also easily carried and has a large memory so you can listen to a wide variety of the viewers idolised songs. A few clips ahead there is a clip of a manââ¬â¢s feet that is one of the first of the clips where you donââ¬â¢t see the Ipod at all. It shows how feet are moving to the rhythm of the music. The next clip the are two pink figures on a aqua back ground standing one on the left the other on the right; they jump in the air and a purple figure drops down from the top right to the centre of the screen. They all land at the same time and dance individually, this is a moment of intense movement as the viewer looks at the screen and it fills their body with energy; some of the cloths that they wear are quite smart so it makes you want to associate more with them. Following six more clips there are two pink Silhouettes of a man and a woman; they both dance together so it suggesting that buying an Ipod makes couples might want to dance together; it makes the audience feel as if they could get closer to their partners by buying two Ipods and suggests relationships will be better. When the text says ââ¬Å"iPod + Itunesâ⬠it is basically saying if a person gets this Apple Ipod and any of the Itunes available you could possibly be like any the people you have seen in the advertisement. The penultimate clip is again of the couple that where dancing together; you can tell because they are the same shape, the woman walks pushing her male partner off the set so you know the advertisement is going to be over, it suggests who wears the trousers of the relationship which appears to be most female viewers around the world. Conclusively finished with a picture of the Apple logo then it no longer needs any text because it is then obvious to the viewers that this is an Apple product. The analysis of the commercial should have been undertaken to make shore that the colourful stroking images would not be dangerous towards to anybody suffering from epilepsy. A mistake that was also recently make by the advertising agency promoting the soon coming 2012Olympics. Music devices are very common, but what makes this Ipod special is they look good and they are fashionable. I would rate the advertisements effectiveness 8/10 because you could make all the clips more memorable rather than short ones, but it has a very catchy song. So it will stick in your mind along with the Apple brands, mainly the Ipod. How to cite Apple Ipod Advertisement Evaluation, Papers

Primacy Recency Effect Essays - Mental Processes, Memory, Recall
Primacy Recency Effect Previous research has found that recency and primacy in memory is affected by tasks given to persons before recalling groups of related or unrelated words given to them by the tester. Subjects are given four (4) separate tests. Each test is a slight deviation from the next and the test are administered and has the subjects recall groups of words. The first two tests are groups of words related to each other. One test has thirty words and the other has 20. The tester calls out these words in no particular order and then the subjects are told to recall as many words as possible. In the third test, the subjects are given sixteen unrelated words. Then they are told to count down from one hundred by sevens and recall as many words as possible. In the fourth test, the subjects are given sixteen unrelated words. Half the subjects are then told to count down from one hundred and half the subjects are told to count up to one hundred by sevens. Subsequently, subjects are told to recall as many words as possible. In the first two tests we find that there is a balance in word recollection. The most words recollected are in the beginning and the end with a very meek showing in the middle. However, in the last two tests the there different outcomes because the primacy and recency is effected. Primacy 3 Characteristics of the Primacy And Recency Effect Serial learning has been studied for a long time and is very prevalent today. There are many studies that link how people remember groups of objects to what is called the primacy recency effect. Depending on the task given to subjects after being told to recall groups of objects, their memory of the objects is effected. Some like Herman Ebinghouse, studied the effects on memory to show how memory is effected and how memory works. In most cases, depending on what task is given the primacy and recency of memory is affected. The primary goal of this study is to assess the correlation between the task and what part of memory is effected. Method Participants In this study only two people were tested. This study usually uses about ten subjects in order for there to be a balance. The two subjects are male and college students about age 22. They were picked for this test because they were there. Materials Not many materials were needed. Each subject needed a piece of paper and a pen. The tester had four list/tests that he administered. Primacy 4 Procedure Four memory tests were administered and then tallied up. The first test, consisted of thirty different words directly related (i.e. animals). After reading them aloud, the tester asked the subjects to recall and write down as many words as they remember. The second test had twenty directly related words (i.e. flowers) and the subjects were then told to do the same. However, the third and fourth tests were slightly different. The third test consisted of sixteen unrelated words. After these words were called out the tester then told the subjects to count one hundred backwards by sevens and then go ahead and remember as many words as possible. Finally, the fourth test was given. It consisted again, of sixteen unrelated words and the subjects were split into two groups. One group had to count up to one hundred by sevens and thee other group had to count down from one hundred by sevens. Results In the first two tests, subjects recalled more of the first and last words heard. Recollection of the words in the middle of the lists was much less. INSERT TABLES 1 AND2 ABOUT HERE In the third test subjects lost sight of the last words of the list when asked to count down from one hundred by sevens. This is called thee Primacy effect. More of the first five words were recalled and the other eleven words were recalled less. INSERT TABLE 3 HERE Primacy 5 In the fourth test, the results did not come out the way it was supposed to (not enough subjects). Because half the subjects are counting up and half the subjects are counting down both the primacy and recency of memory should be effected. However, in this test more of the first words were recalled and the other eleven were scarcely recalled. INSERT TABLE 4 HERE Discussion The results indicated that memory (primacy and recency) is effected by the task given to subjects before asked

Green Business Essay Example
Green Business Essay Example Green Business Essay Green Business Essay Essay on Green Business Industrialization is defined as the large-scale of introduction of manufacturing, advanced technical enterprises, and other productive economic activity in an area. In todays world, many countries are becoming industrialized because it is a sign of power and wealth. Industrialization however, can have negative effect on the environment and living things that include factors such as overpopulation, pollution and bad business practices (greed). This is why a lot of people and organizations today are helping to promote better ways of doing business that will help reduce the active effects of industrialization. N One of the key concepts of industrialization as explained in the article Dying of Consumption? Voluntary Simplicity as an Antidote to Hypothermias is production. The more a company produces, the more profit it will gain, which means more consumption. The author states that materialism is the main reason for the recession that has hit America. According to him, the pursuit of se lf interest, also known as greed, has caused more harm to the society because everyone only thinks about their own well being and not of the environment as a whole. Over-consumption : The problem is over-consumption, people consume more than they need to. The USA spends more natural resources than any other nation in the world. There are several solutions to overcompensation and hypothermias proposed by the author, some which I disagree on. One solution is for consumers to make adjustments and move away from luxury brands and towards simple and cheaper products. Luxury brands do require use of more rare resources, however I also think it reduces consumption. A rich person can spend all their money on one luxury brand or on many inferior brands, its the same thing. One requires more resources and the other more consumption. Another solution is less meat consumption. This is one of the cases of easier said than done. Yes, less meat is better for the environment, but farming livestock is easier and more profitable than farming crops. With crops you have to deal with protection from insects, fertilized soil and weather because certain crops grow during certain season. Meats also taste better than vegetables, and most people only go for taste. This is why a burger in McDonalds cost one dolled while a salad cost five dollars. The author states that even though people require money to take care of their basic needs, an increase in higher income do little to make a person happier once their basic needs are satisfied. Basically that money does not bring a person more happiness, rather it causes more consumption and materialism. I believe this to be true, however without incentives that include promotion and the opportunities for higher positions that pay more money, there really wouldnt be any new innovations and changes that increases efficiency. If everyone earned the same income there ally wouldnt be capitalism, it would be more like a communist society. Even though to find ways to decrease consumption which in turn will decrease pollution and waste and bring for awareness to a society that focuses more on the environment than material goods. In order to decrease the negative effects of industrialization, more companies must become green businesses. Individual efforts can go so far, but businesses must set the examples for they are one who in public. Not only is becoming a green business better for the environment, but it is also a profitable one.

Create Your Own Heirloom Photo Ornament
Create Your Own Heirloom Photo Ornament Holiday ornaments are more than decorations, theyre memories in miniature. Capture the special memories of favorite family members or ancestors by creating your own homemade photo ornament with these step-by-step instructions. Materials: Clear glass ornament (any shape size)Magic Bubble adhesive (or alternative*)Magic Bubble brush (or alternative*)Crystal glitter (very fine), powdered paint pigments (such as Pearl Ex), or shredded Mylar angel hair1/4 decorative ribbon for bow (optional) Note: Magic Bubble products are no longer available in local retail stores, or online. A similar effect can be achieved by using a craft glue such as Mod Podge that dries clear (mix two parts glue to one part water), a spray adhesive, or a clear acrylic paint such asà Ceramcoat. A disposable mascara applicator or even a Q-tip taped onto a thin stick can be substituted for the Magic Bubble brush. Instructions Carefully remove the flange from the top of your glass ornament and rinse the ornament with a solution of bleach and water (this helps prevent mold growth on the finished ornament). Place upside down on paper towels to drain. Let dry thoroughly.Select a treasured family photograph for your photo ornament. Use graphics software, a scanner, and printer, to enhance, resize, and print a copy of the photo on regular printer paper (do NOT use glossy photo paper - it wont conform to the glass ball very well). Alternatively, you can use a photocopier at your local copy shop to make copies. Dont forget to decrease the image size to fit your ornament.Carefully cut around the copied photo, leaving about a 1/4-inch border. If youre using a round ball ornament, make cuts into the edges of the copied photo every 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch, to allow the paper to fit smoothly on the rounded ball. These cuts will not show on the finished ornament.Pour some Magic Bubble adhesive into the ornament, being car eful not to get it on the neck. Tilt the ball to let the adhesive run until it covers the glass where the image will be placed. Roll the copied photo (image side out) into a roll small enough to fit into the ornament and carefully insert. Use the Magic Bubble brush to position the photo against the inside of the ornament and carefully brush over the entire photo until it has smoothly adhered to the glass. If youre unable to obtain the Magic Bubble brush, it looks like a small mascara wand or bottle brush - so feel free to substitute anything similar. If using glitter, pour more Magic Bubble glue into the ornament, and tilt the ornament to cover the inside completely. Pour out any excess. Pour glitter into the ornament and roll the ball until the entire inside of the ornament is covered. If you find youve missed a spot with the Magic Bubble glue, you can use the brush to add more adhesive to that spot. Shake out any excess glitter to avoid clumping.Allow the photo ornament to thoroughly dry. If you did not use glitter on the ball, you can now add shredded Mylar angel hair, decorative paper shreds, punched paper snowflakes, feathers, or other decorative items to fill the inside of the ball. Once the ornament is completed, carefully put the flange back on, pinching the wires to avoid damaging the ornament opening. Use a glue gun or white glue to attach a decorative ribbon bow around the neck of the ornament if desired. You may also want to attach a paper tag with the names and dates (birth death dates and/or the date the photo was taken) of the individuals in the photograph. Heirloom Photo Ornament Tips: If you plan to use your printer to print the photos, be sure the ink is water fast. Many inkjet printers use water-soluble ink, which will run if used in this project. If you arent sure, then have copies made at your local copy shop. This project works best on flat ornaments. When using round balls, be sure to clip the edges of the photo to help it fit the rounded ball, and make pinpricks in the photo to help eliminate air bubbles. Work slowly and be patient - this can be tricky with larger photos and round ball ornaments. If you make a mistake, tear a photo, etc. you always have the option of starting over. To reuse the ornament, rinse it out thoroughly with chlorine bleach, and let dry. Enjoy your special keepsake ornament! Please note: The Magic Bubble ornament is a patented technique by Anita Adams White which she graciously allowed us to share with you.

Technical Proposal Paper - Essay Example In fact, the computers on a network are linked through telephone lines, cables, radio waves (wireless technology), or infrared light beams. In addition, a computer network is also acknowledged as simply an information network or simply net. In this scenario, the Internet is the most popular information network. It distributes data and information between internet users. Additionally, a computer network uses any network operating system that is responsible for managing and co-coordinating the operations of computers that are connected to the network. Some of the well known examples of these operating systems are: Windows NT, Linux, Unix etc. (Nash, 2000; Tanenbaum, 2002; Turban et al., 2005). This project proposal presents the specification of a new network technology based system that will allow data sharing and communication for the effective management of the corporate areas. This proposal is based on the given scenario. Our business is a small architectural business with different working teams. For superior interaction and communication we need to establish a computer network that can offer an excellent support for working remotely as well as communicate with business headquarters. 2- Background As discussed above, we have a small architectural business, with a Chief Executive, Finance Director and Sales Director. Apart from the mentioned hierarchy there are four architects, two administrative staff members and two architectural engineers. In this scenario, architects and engineers could be working at remote locations and would need communication facilities. Regarding this situation, we need a corporate network that can offer an excellent support for managing and coordinating tasks. In addition to this, it could be a web based network or system that can offer the capability to communicate and collaborate effectively. 3- Proposed Solution A new ââ¬Å"network arrangementâ⬠will be established that will offer the facility to communicate effectively with business staff, share resources, data and facts remotely. In addition, this network will be supported by the Internet and can make use of workstations, network server and handheld PDAs for the establishment of overall communication of our business. 4- Office Plan In order to establish a network on the basis of the above given set-up, we need a more flexible network arrangement that would be able to support every area of our business and offer a capability for mutual sharing and handling of corporate resources. 4.1- Requirements for the Network In this setting the main requirements for the new network technology implementation are as follows: The established network must offer the means to communicate effectively The established network must offer an effective data sharing environment The established network must offer the secure data access points The established network must offer an excellent communication facility The established network must offer the remote access to network Th e established n

Quality and Environmental Management Systems Report Essay
Quality and Environmental Management Systems Report - Essay Example 241), and both in turn will enhance customer loyalty. Studies prove that quality is the most vital element to gain customer loyalty (Dora et al 2013). From an organisational perceptive, QMS ensures the effective utilization of available resources so that it can deliver the product/service at optimum price. The term, ââ¬Ëresourcesââ¬â¢ in this regard refers to raw-materials, human resources, technology, information etc. It is advisable for Timmerhus UK Ltd to set up a comprehensive system that involves Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) in order to address the current business issues. Studies indicate that ISOà certified companies have already improved their project performance (Din et al 2011), (Olaru et al 2010). It is clear from the case study that the firm has been facing problems with delivery, product quality, supply chain, income management, and many more. This indicates that the firm has not been utilising any of its resources in a proper way. Continuous improvement is the basic element of quality management. ... It begins with identifying an opportunity and plan for change (plan), and in the second phase, the plan is implemented on a small scale (Do). Then the result of the program is assessed to determine if it brought a positive difference (Check). Finally, the plan is implemented on a wider scale if the result was satisfactory (Act). Other methods include Six Sigma, Taguchi Methods, Statistical Process Control, Lean Method etc. However, in the given case, the firm does not currently have any quality management system, and it is only a mid-size growing firm. The Lean System of quality management, which involves Just-in-time (JIT) management, Supply chain and process considerations, and the Kanban System seems relevant to the context. Toyota Production System (TPS) is one of the trendiest Lean Manufacturing Systems which is mainly based on four principles. They are; 1) all works including sequence, timing, and outcome must be completely specified, 2) every customer-supplier connection must be direct, 3) pathway for every service and product must be simple and direct, and 4) any improvement to the system must be made in accordance with the scientific method, under the guidance of a teacher, at the lowest possible organisational level (Slide: Lean System). Timmerhus must follow (TPS) system of management in order to meet its objectives in the long run. The firmââ¬â¢s current business involves projects, engineering customer-specific products, delivering finished products or spare parts, and providing industrial services. Hence, following a Lean System is more applicable, for ââ¬ËLeanââ¬â¢ is a combination of lightness and liveliness, and it offers several alternative control methods at the

Population Explosion in India Essay
Population explosion is a problem which is faced by the country at an alarming state. The way at which the population of the country is increasing is a cause of concern and so me of the causes of population explosion are: High birth rate which is caused by: Universal marriage system where everyone necessarily needs to get married in the country. Early marriage where the average age of marriage is extremely low as compared to other countries of the world. Illiteracy is a problem which is facing the country and the low literacy rates lead to traditional, superstitious and ignorant population. Poverty is another issue which faces the country and needs to be solved. Poor people are illiterate and see a child as a ââ¬Å"gift of Godâ⬠which indirectly leads to population explosion. Tropical climate of the country leads to girls and boys attaining puberty at an early age which is also one of the reasons for a huge population. The joint family system also leads to a division of socio-economic responsibilities among everyone in the family which leads to Women are given a low status in the society and are seen as a person for cooking and begetting and are not free to speak up for their rights. Along with this the decreasing death rate is also one of the reasons for population explosion. Indiaââ¬â¢s population has already crossed the billion marks. Thus, the country having only on 2. 4 per cent of globeââ¬â¢s area has come to hold 16 per cent of globeââ¬â¢s human beings. Its current annual increase at 16 million is the highest in the world. Soon we may achieve the dubious distinction of becoming the most populous country in the world. The debate about population explosion in India is now over half a century old. It acquired a new perspective when the 2000 National Population Policy (NPP) was drafted. There was a marked shift from the target-oriented approach of the 70? s and 80? s to the one that envisioned the ââ¬Ëdevelopment is the best pillââ¬â¢ outlook. The demographics experts, womenââ¬â¢s groups, health organisations, social activists and academicians were able to convince the policymakers that in order to achieve the socio- demographic goals of the reduction of inequalities, provision of education, services and creation of awareness were to be taken on a priority. The main causes of big size and high growth of population can be broadly categorised into social and economic causes which are as below: i) Marriage is almost inevitable among men and women; (ii) Motherhood is nearly universal among married women; (iii) The custom of early marriage followed since many centuries has facilitated a wider range of reproductive period; (iv) The Net Production Rate (NPR) is greater than one, which means that women replace themselves by giving birth to more than one daughter which leads to constant rise in birth rate; (v) Wideà ¬spread illiteracy among people, especially woman is also a major contributor.à It has been proved that there is a direct relation between illiteracy and fertility; (vi) Superstitious beliefs and myths that a male child is a must for salvation, social security and continuation of the family tree; and (vii) Misconceptions that the use of birth control measures lead to diseases, defects or general weakness. The economic causes include (i) Children are considered to be an asset not a liability by the poor who look at them as source of income; (ii) Statistics also prove that the cost benefit ratio for a child is favourable to the poor; (iii) Lack of proper medical facilities and high mortality rate of infant to want more children; and (iv) There is also total lack of economic security for widows and elderly people which makes people go for children as economic security. There are other reasons which cannot be classified as either social or economic reasons like lack of proper family planning techniques and facilities, high birth rate and low death rate. Overpopulation has far-reaching consequences on every aspect of life of a country. These consequences will have to be studied in length before we can find appropriate measures to stem the root. Overpopulation not only leads to but also perpetuates poverty. The economists are of the opinion that there are four main factors that make a country rich or poor: 1. National factors like location features and mineral resources available in the country. 2. Historical factors, i. e. whether a country has remained a colony of some other country and has suffered long economic exploitation, e. g. India under British rule. 3. Demographic factors, i. e. the size and growth of population. 4. Economic factors, i. e. availability of capital, technology, infrastructure, etc. The demographic factors assume greater importance because natural factors remain constant and history cannot be changed. The large size of population means employment of lionââ¬â¢s share of the resources for the production of goods for the satisfaction of the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. The high rate of growth of population means continuing additional burden on these resources. It is only due to unfavourable demographic factors that poor countries remain in perpetual poverty. The per capita income which is the indicator of richness of a country does not increase even with an increase in total income because the population which is a divisor in this equation also increases. The economists affirm that the sure way for a poor country is to increase its productive capacity by producing more capital goods like machinery. But as the overpopulated countries need consumer goods in large quantities to satisfy peopleââ¬â¢s wants it becomes difficult for them to employ their resources for the producing ââ¬Ëproducerââ¬â¢ goods and thus they remain under the vicious circle of poverty. Another drawback of population explosion is that it makes all plans made for development of the country go haywire. Our own country created an autonomous Planning Commission and started a series of Five-Year Plans from the year 1951-52. But we have not been able to bring rapid development because our population which was 36. 1 crore in 1951 has grown about three times today at approx. 108 crores. Naturally any development plan made for one person cannot be adequate for three. The age composition of our population is also not favourable. It has been found that the working age group constitutes 60% of the total population falls in the dependent age groups of a high dependency ratio of 67% calculated as follows: If we take into account the unemployment disguised unemployment and quasi unemployment into factor this would present a gloomier picture of our economy. Still further, if we consider that a high portion of those who are engaged in some type of work or the other are not technically trained and fall in the category of unskilled labour, we shall realise that our productive capacity is quite low. Under such conditions a high growth of population adds to the burden of our economy. The large size of population also has an adverse impact on our natural resources. Coal, petroleum, natural gas, minerals and forests are being excessively used to set up more industries to manufacture various consumable articles to satisfy ever- increasing wants. As these resources are limited and exhaustible, they have been dwindling so drastically that soon they would exhaust completely. Forests are being cleared to bring more land under cultivation to provide food for increasing population and to make more settlements for their living. Burning of fossil fuels in factories, vehicles and households has created another menace of environmental pollution. Injudisions use of water resources like rivers like, ponds, wells, streams and even oceans has caused water pollution. Many diseases have arisen to afflict human beings and affect vegetation as it is, the deforestation is likely to continue unabated which would further aggravate the problem. Yet another problem is the migration of rural people to urban areas in search of better earning opportunities. The statistics show an alarming increase of 57% from 34% after independence. The crowding of urban localities demand more infrastructure, civic services, transport, health, sanitation and educational facilities providing which is not only a challenging task but also means an additional burden on the already inadequate economic resources. As the stabilisation of population is the most significant task ahead of us, stringent measures are required in this direction. Some countries have sought to enforce legal remedies for this chronic malady. For example, China has applied the one child norm lay law. Some Indian states have barred the candidates having more than two children from any election. Such strict measures may work but their side effects may outweigh their benefit to society and country. We need to address the problem of overpopulation in the broader sense and in a socially controlled way. This an be done by creating awareness among people and providing them the required means.

Food Insecurity and Poverty in the U.S. - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 664 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/02/15 Category Health Essay Level High school Tags: Food Insecurity Essay Did you like this example? Even though the poverty rate is slowly going down and the median income is going up, millions of Americans earn an income low enough that they are forced to worry about being able to afford enough food to sufficiently feed their families. This includes families whose average income doesnââ¬â¢t even fall below the poverty line, and people who face varying systemic barriers affecting their ability to have food security and earn a living wage. In the last year, around forty-million Americans earned less than $25,100. That is considered to be the poverty line for an American family of four. This makes it extremely evident that there are still families who find it difficult to afford their necessities, who unfortunately are a part of the ten-million food-insecure people of the United States who earn incomes that are too high to be considered eligible for SNAP or WIC assistance. It is outrageous that over forty-million people live with the worry that they wonââ¬â¢t be able to sufficiently feed their families. Included in the forty-million people living below the poverty line, are over twelve-million children who shouldnââ¬â¢t have to go to school hungry. The American people need to paid a better living wage so that they donââ¬â¢t have to constantly live in fear. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Food Insecurity and Poverty in the U.S." essay for you Create order This disadvantage is even greater among those who are facing systemic barriers preventing them from earning an appropriate income, including those with a disability, households run by single mothers, and those living in rural areas. In America, the poverty rate is twice as high among those with a disability, totaling four million people, households run by single mothers are two and a half times more likely to live with food insecurity, and for the past four years, higher food insecurity has been found in rural households than in urban ones. This can be seen in the graph presented on page two, which shows us that the highest number of food-insecure households are mainly in the South at 43%, followed by the Midwest with 22%, the West with 21%, and the Northeast with 15%. In addition to this, certain racial groups are more affected than others. Although 50% of food-insecure households are white, they represent only 1 in 11 American households, compared to the much more frequent 1 in 5 A frican American and 1 in 6 Latino households who report food insecurity. The census bureau has started to account for the number of people who were protected from poverty with the help of the Supplemental Poverty Measure, which incorporates the aid received through federal programs including Social Security, SNAP benefits, and EITC and child tax credits. Social Security prevented an estimated twenty-seven million people from falling below the poverty line, while EITC and child tax credits with eight million, and SNAP benefits with three million. The Supplemental Poverty Measure is also supposed to measure by including the impact of significant expenses, such as medical expenditures, but there are still eleven million people living in poverty due to withstanding medical expenses. American citizens shouldnââ¬â¢t have to worry about their ability to pay their bills if they get sick. America needs a more comprehensive healthcare system. Evidence clearly suggests that federal programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP programs work to protect families from facing these burdens. We must ensure that our government doesnââ¬â¢t weaken the strength of these federal programs and the aid they provide, and educate our population on the ways that can build their household stability, like enrolling in health insurance. We must also make the people who are in higher need a priority, like communities of color, seniors, single-parent households, and those with disabilities. We can do our part by donating food to one of the 200 food banks or 60,000 food pantries or meal programs established all over the country. Feeding America leads the fight in educating the public about the nations hunger problem and advocating for protective legislation, but we as citizens also need to fight to ensure our government is striving to keep people from going hungry.

East India Company - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1505 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/04/04 Category Politics Essay Level High school Tags: Imperialism Essay Did you like this example? From its origin as a small London enterprise, the East India Company emerged in 1600 as a powerful commercial and political organization established by the English businessmen. Its early presence in India shaped the Gulf region and officially brought western people into Asias early modern landscape. During the period of 1700 to 1900, the world was expanding rapidly, and many western countries took on their journey of imperialism to obtain more control over world trade and expand their territories. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "East India Company" essay for you Create order Certain factors such as strong western military power and Asian migration force largely contributed to the expansion of European imperialism over early modern Asian empires. Throughout, the power of imperialism and profits of commerce have been woven together. This was the period when the most western and eastern interactions started to take place, and it was called the age of imperialism as western force had taken control over Asia, especially India and China, by the end of 19th century. The British entered the Indian market in the 18th century with the East India Company to seek larger financial and mercantile benefits. Economic changes brought by the Industrial Revolution let the European capitalists came to realize the huge profits that could be made by overseas trade. By then, the dominant power in India was the Mughal Empire, and it was required for the Englishmen to clarify their purpose for trading when they first arrived. The British trading company focused most of its attention on exchanging spices, cotton and many other commodities. Its competitors were the Portuguese, who secured the Indian west coast, and the French, who controlled the southeast area (Blackwell 34). However, the East Indian Company started to develop beyond a purely commercial enterprise. With the decline of the Mughal Empire and the concurrent rise of regional powers, the British and East India Company took advantage of the political instability and established military supremacy over rival European trading companies and local rulers. In 1757, the seizure over control of the province of Bengal marked the start of imperialism. After that, the British and the Company had acquired considerable political power, developed a bureaucratic infrastructure, and passed a series of legal acts. Their aim was to officially and legally regulate taxation, new rules and bribery (Blackwell 35). A foreign entitys ability to take direct control over taxation of local Indian citizens indicated a shift of relationship roles. Previously, the interactions between the British and Indians were balanced off with no sense of superiority or inferiority. However, with the absolute transition to the Companys new role as the ruler, the British attitude toward Indians degenerated. British businessmen used to ask for permissions to enter the Indian market, but because they wanted moreâ⬠more commodities, more trading and political powerâ⬠to keep more lands under British control. The goal was achieved mostly because of Britains utter military advantage, and that decisive factor is proven to still work in current times. A countrys respect and reputation are built upon its military power and technology advancement. People from smaller or more under-developed countries have to listen to the words from the dominant country because the dominant one has the absolute power to overturn a rule, a treaty, or even in the East Indian Companys case, Indias established political and social system. British continued its imperialistic achievement in the rest of Asia, and the Opium War is also an example of how British people broke into and took control over the trade in China. The Opium War was a national wound to China: the start of a western conspiracy to destroy China with drugs and gunboats (Lovell). The First Opium War indicated the start of unequal treaties for China and further toppled the power of Qing dynasty. The primary motive of British imperialism in China was economic because China was the largest economy in the world for many centuries. In the 18th century, there was a need for tea among British people, so the demand for Chinese tea rose astronomically. In order to prevent a trade imbalance and obtain more profits through overseas trade, Britain tried to sell more products to China, one of which was opium. Actively trading on the wealthier coastal region of China, which was far away from the capital of the empire in the mainland, the British bribed officials and even distributed free samples of the drug to citizens. In spite of the Chinese governments prohibitions, greater opium supplies to the east coast area had naturally incurred a huge increase in demand for opium. The empire was insecure about the frequent foreign trade and wanted to suppress the development. Eventually, violent conflicts arose in between the Qing and Britains military forces. However, the western military weapons, including heavy artillery and gunboats, were far superior to Chinas (Gronewold). It was impossible for the declining Qing Dynasty to stop the invasive progress of western imperialism, and the result was a disaster for the Chinese. By the middle of 1842, China was forced to accept the British demands and sign the Nanking Treaty, or the unequal treaties (Gronewold). This first agreement marked the beginning for the British officially started their exploitation of this oriental nation. More ports were involuntarily opened to foreign residence and trade, and foreigners and missionaries were allowed to freely conduct business anywhere within the country. For the westerners, the desire to expand their trading territories and seek out overseas economic opportunities was very commonly used as an excuse to enter a foreign land. The British did not start with an ambitious plan, but as soon as the conflicts arose and jeopardized their trading benefits, they chose to take on a very aggressive move. Similar to the situation in India, Britain also fueled the breakdown of the Qing dynasty regime with their military power. The desire for the endless trading profits intermingled with the imperialistic mindset to take control in more territories, which ended up leading to centuries of western imperialism and colonialization. Under the period of western imperialism dominating Asia, many groups of Asian people were involved and influenced in a larger social context. There was a wave of global labor migration during the period of the mid-1830s through the early 1920s which played an important role in the colonial world. Working as laborers under informal contracts, millions of Africans, Chinese, Indians, Japanese and other migrants labored on sugar plantations in British, Dutch, French, and Spanish colonies (Allen). For instance, about 1.5 million Indians migrated to Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) and Malaya to work as coffee and rubber plantation laborers under the so-called kangani or maistry system (Allen). Migrated laborers made a great contribution to meet the demand for expanding trade needs around Asia under imperialism. However, those migrating indentured laborers did not receive respectful treatment; they were subjected to abuse and exploitation, and the colonial policies were strictly established to exploit their labor with low pay and restrict their movements. This global labor migration and indentured labor system was essentially a new system of slavery, said by Hugh Tinker (Allen). Developed under the period of imperialism and colonization, the indentured system was similar to slavery because of the unequal treatment laborers received. Unlike the British businessmen, Indian governors, or the Qing Dynasty empire who decided and acted, those migrated laborers were normal and innocent Asian people who were influenced by and lived under the imperialism transition period. The respect Europeans used to hold for Asian people turned into arrogance and arbitrary. The standing positions in this eastern-western relationship were switched, and the western forces controlled the territories and trade in Asia. Indentured Asian laborers were part of the groups who directly faced cultural racism that shaped colonial attitudes and policies about labor relations. The migration of labor and indentured experience reflect the boom of plantation and trade commerce and furthermore demonstrate the changes in racial attitude of westerners under the imperialism transition. Imperialism is the process whereby one nation extends political, economic, and social control over another. The European imperialism during the period of 1700-1900 had grown complex, varied, and multifaceted because the process had great impacts on many aspects of Asian countries. Indeed, British businessmens arrival bridged the trade connection between the eastern and western worlds, which benefited both regions economies in the beginning. However, as the trade conflicts happened between Britain and India, or between Britain and the Qing Dynasty, the British started to use their enormous military force to put pressure on the eastern political side. The trade policies were changed to open up for the foreigners and facilitated for them to benefit easily through overseas trade. Most importantly, western people shifted their attitude towards Asian people since they were aware of the fact that the imperialism allowed them to hold the absolute power over the eastern countries. The example of racism from the migrated laborers experience illustrates a serious social and cultural issue happened under the western imperialism process. During the colonial period of 1700-1900, western imperialism intruded an Asian world of trade and commerce with their military supremacy and largely affected on its economic, political, and social aspects.
